Last week Justin Trudeau unveiled the new federal cabinet.
He added 2 new positions bringing the number of seats up to 37. Here are some key things that caught our eye.
Please keep our newly elected cabinet in prayer. They need our support in this way.
Below are a few things we felt were important to watch with these appointments/re-appointments.
BAD & GOOD NEWS
JUSTICE MINISTER DAVID LAMETTI – BACK
Conversion Therapy, Revocation of Charitable Status and Assisted Suicide
Faith based charities, keep your eyes open.
David Lametti’s was appointed to Minister of Justice and Attorney General after Jody Wilson-Raybould.
He has expressed that the criminalization of conversion therapy will likely be a priority for him and that the revocation of charitable status would be an important tool to enforce this. Such a law would negatively target churches and ministries that have a Biblical view of sexuality. Expect this issue to be a strong topic of discussion for the faith community in 2020 and stay tuned for updates.
Additionally, the issue of expanding assisted suicide is on the table after a court in Quebec struck down the current law. Click here to read more. This means that Minister Lametti, who is known as a pro-assisted suicide voice, will be looking at expanding the current laws on medically assistance in dying.

FINANCE MINISTER BILL MORNEAU – BACK
Bill Morneau is back in Finance. In our view this is also bad news for Canada as Morneau because he has a 100% track record of deficit budgets. Morneau has driven up the federal debt at record levels for a non-recession cycle, meaning higher taxes for this and future generations. During the election Justin Trudeau campaigned on a 27 billion dollar deficit in 2020, much higher than his first year budget in 2015.
In the wake of this election promise, the Financial Post reported Liberals send debt into hyperdrive and ‘Generation Screwed’ will end up paying for it. Click here to read full FP article.

THREE STRONG VOICES FOR ABORTION – BACK
It is no secret that Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party has been aggressively abortion, last May applauding third trimester abortion at taxpayer expense for no medical reason to the mother or child.
Last week three outspoken advocates for abortion during the election were re-appointed to cabinet:
|▪||Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages|
|▪||Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health|
|▪||Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equity, Minister of Rural Economic Development|
IMMIGRATION MINISTER AHMED HUSSEN – MOVED
Our office heard first hand stories of families being deported back to nations where their life was at risk becuase of their faith. This happened during Ahmed Hussen’s time as Minister of Immigration. He has since been moved to Ministry of Family, Children and Social Development.
CHRYSTIA FREELAND – TASKED TO BRING UNITY TO CANADA
Most eyes were on the appointment of Chrystia Freeland to Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister. She will be tasked with the important job of working with the provinces to foster national unity in the wake of unprecedented challenges between the prairie provinces and the federal government. Please keep her in prayer as she navigates this important position.
Now that the election has come and gone, the most impactful thing we can do is pray and e-mail our leaders, in a spirit of honour, and ask them to stand for fiscal stewardship, freedom of conscience, religion and expression, for life and more.
