March 18th, 2019
Today our Members of Parliament return to Ottawa after a constituency break.
This is setting up to be a interesting week with the both the budget being tabled Tuesday and the Justice Committee reconvening to continue discussions on whether or not to allow Jody Wilson-Raybould to give further testimony.
In addition, today, the Canadian Council of Christian Charities CEO, John Pellowe, appears before a Senate committee to share why and how advancing religion is a very worth charitable cause. Please keep him in prayer. Read more.
Following is a general overview of what has happened with Jody Wilson-Raybould and the SNC-Lavalin Controversy.
Timeline of Events:
Spring 2018– Liberal government passed an omnibus Budget Implementation Bill (556 pages) which had a DPA (deferred prosecution agreement) provision buried within it.
Sept-Dec 2018– Wilson-Raybould was allegedly pressured to use the DPA for SNC-Lavalin, but she refused to interfere with the judicial decision that they did not qualify.
January 14th, 2019– Wilson-Raybould was removed from her position as Justice Minister and Attorney General
February 7, 2019– The Globe and Mail broke the story that Wilson-Raybould experienced political interference.
February 12th, 2019– Wilson-Raybould resigned from Cabinet.
February 18, 2019– Gerald Butts resigned from the PMO.
February 27th, 2019– Wilson-Raybould testified at the Justice Committee and said the she experienced consistent and sustained inappropriate pressure from people in the government seeking to have her politically interfere in the SNC-Lavalin prosecutions.
March4th, 2019– Jane Philpott resigns from Cabinet stating the handling of SNC as the main issue.
March 13th, 2019– Justice Committee voted to suspend the emergency meeting to discuss wether or not to have Jody Wilson-Raybould back to clarify discrepancies with her testimony compared to Butts and Wernick.
New meeting date March 19th, 2019 which is the same day as the Liberal budget is released. It will be a closed meeting not available to view. There is speculation that an early May election will be called.
The SNC-Lavalin controversy is not going away anytime soon.
Trudeau has stated it is a non-issue and the only reason he spoke to Jody Wilson-Raybould was to save 9,000 jobs.
This has not been well received. When challenged by Elizabeth May about the jobs it was found there was never a study to prove that 9,000 jobs were ever in jeopardy.
Critics believe, and Jody Wilson-Raybould suggested that she believes, the real reason for the pressure in favour of SNC-Lavalin was to look good to Quebec voters. It has also been reported that SNC-Lavalin has given financial support to the Liberal Party.
Our Continued Response
Please agree in prayer for the following:
1 – For the truth to prevail.
2 – That everything that can be shaken, would be shaken, and that only the things that cannot be shaken would remain. (Hebrews 12: 26-29)
3 – That God would use this vulnerable time of shaking to touch the hearts and lives of all those implicated and that they run into His loving arms.
4 – That the end result of this would be the best possible leadership scenario for our nation’s future.
Please also pray protection over Jody Wilson-Raybould at this time of national transparency.
