08.21.2017 – Aug. 21st, 2017 – New StatsCan Report: Changes to the Traditional Family in Canada

The typical household in Canada is changing.

Statistics Canada recently released a new series of data showing that the typical Canadian household no longer consists of a traditional family made up of one mother and father and their children.

Instead, the most common type of household now consists of a single person living alone (28.2 percent of all households). The data also shows the lowest level of households with children on record. The number of families with common-law and same-sex partnerships also showed an increase.
